I stopped at one those little boxes on a post with a roof that contained free books in my neighborhood and got a copy of “The Shipping News”. I have not read for “entertainment” for a very long time. My work was reading things I needed to know in order to do my job, which entailed even more reading. When not working; reading was not something I wanted to do more of. “The Shipping News” is brilliant. I almost quit at the beginning because all the characters were so wretched and awful I did not want to continue. The story starts getting a little brighter and I am sucked in now. Hopefully, renewing my reading habit towards more enjoyable books will pull me away from screens. There are enough books in thrift stores and I notice “Little Free Libraries” in towns and cities I ride through. They have an APP of course to locate the cutesy little boxes, and it is well worth getting.
I also found this resource of downloadable books for free. I am trying to avoid passive screen time by reading real paper books, but if this is a good list of free books to download.
